Prophetic Dialogues with Christians in the light of Fiqh al-Sīrah:
Guidance for the Contemporary EraAuthor/s
Ms. Amna TahirM.Phil Scholar, Department of Islamic Learning, University of KarachiAbstract
This research examines the Prophetic dialogues and interactions with Christian communities through the analytical framework of Fiqh al-Sīrah, with particular emphasis on their relevance and applicability to the contemporary era. During the Prophetic period, encounters with Christians—most notably the delegation of Najrān and interactions with individuals from Abyssinia and other regions—reflected a distinctive model of theological dialogue, ethical engagement, and political coexistence grounded in justice and respect. This study aims to explore the nature, objectives, and jurisprudential dimensions of these dialogues, highlighting how the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) combined doctrinal clarity with openness to discussion and peaceful coexistence. The central research questions guiding this study include: What were the defining characteristics of the Prophet’s dialogues with Christian communities? How did Fiqh al-Sīrah shape the Prophetic approach to theological disagreement and socio-political engagement? What legal, ethical, and methodological principles can be derived from these interactions? And how can these principles inform contemporary Muslim engagement with Christian communities in a globalized, pluralistic world? The research adopts a qualitative and analytical methodology, drawing upon primary sources such as the Qur’an, authentic Hadith collections, classical Sīrah works, and historical accounts of treaties and correspondences, including the dialogue with the Najrān delegation. Secondary sources from contemporary scholarship on Islamic jurisprudence, interfaith dialogue, and applied Sīrah studies are also utilized. Through thematic and contextual analysis, the study evaluates key events of dialogue, debate, mutual agreements, and peaceful accommodation to extract normative principles within Fiqh al-Sīrah. The significance of this research is multifaceted. For society, it offers an authentic Prophetic model for respectful interfaith dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and conflict prevention amid rising religious polarization. For academicians, it contributes to the growing field of applied Sīrah jurisprudence by providing a structured analysis of Muslim–Christian relations during the Prophetic era. For future researchers, the study opens avenues for comparative interreligious jurisprudence, contemporary applications of Prophetic diplomacy, and policy-oriented research on religious pluralism. The study ultimately demonstrates that Prophetic dialogues with Christians were rooted in justice, wisdom, and principled engagement, offering enduring guidance for constructive religious interaction in the modern age.

Prophetic Wisdom in Dialogue with the Polytheists of Makkah: An Objective and applied Jurisprudential Study of the SeerahAuthor/s
Ms. Syeda Unsha tul FatimaM.Phil Scholar, Department of Islamic Learning, University of KarachiAbstract
This research presents an objective and applied study of the Prophet Muhammad’s wisdom in dialogue and engagement with the polytheists of Makkah, analyzed through the methodological framework of Fiqh al-Sīrah. The study begins by introducing the concept of dialogue (ḥiwār) and wisdom (ḥikmah) as fundamental tools of prophetic mission, emphasizing their central role in peaceful communication, moral persuasion, and conflict management during the Makkan period. The Makkan phase of Prophethood is particularly significant due to its intense opposition, ideological confrontation, and social hostility, making it a rich model for understanding principled dialogue under adversity. The primary research questions addressed include: What were the key characteristics of the Prophet’s dialogical approach toward the polytheists of Makkah? How did prophetic wisdom balance firmness in belief with tolerance, patience, and ethical engagement? In what ways can these dialogical strategies be applied to contemporary contexts of religious pluralism, ideological conflict, and daʿwah? The research adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and analytical methodology based on primary sources of Sīrah, Qurʾānic discourse revealed in the Makkan period, authentic aḥādīth, and classical as well as contemporary works on Fiqh al-Sīrah. An applied and comparative approach is used to examine specific incidents such as negotiations with Quraysh leaders, responses to mockery and persecution, rejection of compromise on core beliefs, and the use of moral reasoning and rhetorical clarity. The study evaluates these encounters in light of Islamic legal and ethical principles, demonstrating how the Prophet’s approach upheld truth without aggression and dialogue without dilution of faith. The significance of this research is wide-ranging: for society, it offers a model of peaceful coexistence, ethical communication, and conflict resolution; for the Muslim community, it provides guidance on engaging with ideological opponents through wisdom rather than hostility; and for academicians and researchers, it contributes a structured analytical model for studying Prophetic conduct within the discipline of Fiqh al-Sīrah. The study concludes that Prophetic dialogue with the polytheists of Makkah represents a timeless paradigm of principled communication, combining intellectual clarity, moral integrity, patience, and strategic wisdom, which remains highly relevant for contemporary daʿwah and interfaith engagement.

Diplomatic Principles of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and their Comparison with Contemporary Practices - An Analytical StudyAuthor/s

The modern world, as I write this, is convulsing with at least two active wars in Ghaza and Ukraine, mainly because of failure of diplomacy, a fact which begs the questions what are the reasons behind this failure today and comparatively, what were the guiding principles and objectives of diplomacy pursued by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that ensured Him success in all conflicts 15 centuries ago. The world, indeed, has to learn valuable lessons from the Prophet’s handling of inter-state disputes before they escalate into active wars. The obvious answer is that prophetic diplomacy functioned along the principles of justice, fairness and equality whereas, the modern diplomacy is driven by selfish interests and worldly gains for which world powers often trample upon international humanitarian laws and then use global media to whitewash their crimes and demonize their opponent. Western powers often use such strong-arm diplomacy against weaker nations in the third world, particularly Muslim world, whereas, in contrast, the Prophet maintained diplomatic relations even with neighboring powers of Persia and Byzantine on equal basis despite being short on resources. His nascent state won a series of wars imposed on it by the then powers through its strict adherence to the principles of sovereignty, fair play and justice in peace as well as in war. The world witnessed a revival of the same spirit in recent times when weaker nations like Vietnam and Afghanistan inflicted defeats on their powerful foes by sheer conviction and moral force. This thesis attempts to present an outline of the Prophet’s model of diplomacy by extracting foundational principles from His conduct vis-a-vis other states in times of peace and war. This model may help Muslim states develop a mechanism for the application of the Prophet’s diplomatic principles and help them liberate from the cobweb of self-damaging strategic alliances with powerful nations and harmful commercial agreements through which their former colonial masters control them. If it happens, the Muslim states will be able to take a united stand on all crucial issues confronting the umma such as Israeli occupation of Palestine, Indian occupation of Kashmir, Rohingya crisis etc. and play a vibrant and dynamic role on world stage for a better tomorrow.

Incident’s of Quran’s desecration in the twenty-first century,causes and remedial measuresAuthor/s
Mr. Muhammad Uzair ZaheerMPhil Scholar, Department of Islamic learning, University of KarachiAbstract
The desecration of the Holy Quran has become one of the most controversial manifestations of religious intolerance in the twenty-first century. A number of incidents occurring in different parts of the world have provoked strong reactions from Muslim communities and raised serious concerns regarding the balance between freedom of expression and respect for religious sanctities. These incidents have not only hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims but have also affected interfaith relations, social harmony, and international peace. This study aims to examine the major incidents of Quran desecration in the twenty-first century, identify their underlying causes, and propose effective remedial measures in the light of Islamic teachings and contemporary international norms. Employing a descriptive and analytical methodology, the research explores various factors contributing to such acts, including Islamophobia, religious intolerance, political polarization, extremist ideologies, hate speech, and the misuse of democratic freedoms. The study further analyzes the social, political, and religious consequences of these incidents on Muslim societies and global relations. Drawing upon the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the paper emphasizes the principles of human dignity, mutual respect, justice, wisdom, and peaceful coexistence. It argues that the prevention of such incidents requires a comprehensive strategy involving legal safeguards, educational reforms, interfaith dialogue, responsible media practices, and international cooperation. The study concludes that promoting religious tolerance and fostering a culture of mutual understanding are essential for reducing religious hatred and ensuring peaceful coexistence in an increasingly interconnected world. The research offers practical recommendations for policymakers, religious leaders, educators, and international organizations to address the root causes of Quran desecration and prevent its recurrence in the future.

Atheistic Movements and Their Impact in Pakistan: A Historical PerspectiveAuthor/s
Mr. Ijaz AhmedMPhil, Scholar, Department of Islamic Learning, University of KarachiAbstract
Atheistic thought, though historically peripheral in Muslim societies, has gained increasing visibility in Pakistan in the post-independence era due to factors such as colonial intellectual influence, secular educational frameworks, political developments, globalization, and the rapid expansion of digital and social media. This study presents a historical analysis of atheistic movements in Pakistan, examining their origins, ideological foundations, modes of expression, and societal influence. It seeks to address key research questions: What historical, intellectual, and socio-political factors contributed to the emergence of atheistic movements in Pakistan? How have these movements articulated their narratives, and what impact have they had on religious discourse, youth perceptions, academic environments, and social behavior? What responses have been formulated by religious scholars, educational institutions, and the state in addressing the challenges posed by atheistic ideologies? Employing a qualitative and historical research methodology, the study relies on primary sources such as writings, online content, public statements, and digital platforms associated with atheistic individuals and groups, alongside secondary sources including scholarly books, research articles, policy documents, and newspaper archives. The research utilizes content analysis and critical discourse analysis to evaluate arguments, counter-arguments, and patterns of influence, ensuring an objective and balanced academic inquiry. The significance of this study is multi-dimensional: for students and emerging researchers, it provides a systematic framework to understand atheism within Pakistan’s historical and intellectual context beyond emotional or polemical debates; for academicians, it contributes to interdisciplinary discussions on religion, ideology, and modernity; and for society at large, it encourages informed dialogue, critical reflection, and constructive engagement with contemporary belief-related challenges, thereby fostering intellectual maturity, religious awareness, and social cohesion in Pakistan.
