The Difference between Ethics and Morality: Some ReflectionAuthor/s
Prof. Muhammed Mumtaz AliDepartment of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion,Abdul Hamid Abu Sulayman Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences,International Islamic University Malaysia, MalaysiaAbstract
Most philosophers and scholars have used ethics and morality interchangeably considering morality as the subject matter of ethics. However, it is realized based on an in-depth examination that this kind of use defeats the purpose of ethics as a separate discipline. Ethics cannot deal with morals alone. Its subject matter is whole life, especially metaphysical dimensions. Based on the method of content analysis it is claimed here that the scope and subject matter of ethics pervades whole life and the world. Hence, based on literature review it is established that both ethics and Islamic ethics are currently dealing with morals. Ethics as rational search must be based on knowledge instead of metaphysical speculation and philosophical conjecture. It is also contended that at the very outset the role of ethics is to conduct search for its knowledge-based foundation. It is claimed that the dominant view of ethics must be liberated from its conjectural and speculative foundation and be replaced by the foundation of knowledge - True, Authentic, and Universal Knowledge [TAUK].

This article deals with the topic of Homonyms (The word has multiple meanings) and its impact on the interpretation of Al-Sameen in his books (Al-Durr Almasone) and (Umdat Al-Hofaz). In this study, I combined language and interpretation, and demonstrated the effort of Al-Samin in the service of interpreting the Holy Qur’an, and presented his great efforts in linguistic research, and collected his efforts in his books (Al-Durr) and (Al-Omdah) on the subject of the Homonyms, and arranged his thoughts, and studied his tangible effects in His interpretation of the Holy Qur’an, while rooting the role of language as a tool of interpretation in the old and the modern, and explaining the aspects of its meanings that were numerous, and its methods that varied. The research also highlights the importance of the signification of the Homonyms, and the extent of its influence on the interpretation of the Holy Qur’an and shows the reason for the difference between scholars and interpreters in the meaning of the Qur’anic word and shows the importance of the Qur’anic context in determining the exact meaning of vocabulary and structures, while highlighting the close link between the semantic development of the linguistic word, and the intended meaning of the word in the Quranic verse.
